The auction starts December 1st and provides an opportunity to support

a wonderful cultural activity in Ottawa.

The first pen is a beautiful bubinga pen mounted on the classic pen mechanism. A simple twist pen, but compact and comfortable in your hand.

The spalted maple rollerball is a popular design. Also available in fountain.

And because I couldn't resist some maple burl, on

the 'elegant beauty' version of the classic pen style.

This is an Amboyna "Cigar Style" pen. Absolutely stunning wood, and a classic to hold in the hand.

These two are a little more ornate than I usually like, but the metal detailing is impossible to not love. The left hand pen is in Pink ivory, and the right hand pen is curly maple burl. Gorgeous

An update on availability

I've gotten a couple of questions on what's available,
based on the "buy 3 get one" post from earlier today:
(remember: the free pen will be equal or lesser value)

Here are some sample photos of the range of pens currently available:
(I have more pens made up than I have time to make photos of...)

These two Amboyna are expensive, but stunning: no matter how I take
the photo, they don't capture the exquisite details of these pens.
Currently made up as rollerballs: available in fountain.
I also have a variety of less expensive rollerball and fountain pens in a variety of mechanisms and metal platings. Contact me for details.

The Classic pens below represent a sample of some of what I have available and made up: I just made a few up in Ottawa valley maple. Absolutely gorgeous, and at an attractive price point.

I also have many ink pens made up in both slender and larger sizes as seen below. Drop by Jim Durrell December 11th, or get in touch and I can come for a visit and demonstration.

Great day at the craft sale yesterday at the RA Centre.

Reminder to folks asking the question, keep an eye on "Google Places" for my coupon for purchases at the sales this season.

I'm at the Jim Durrell Centre this Saturday the 13th, and Sunday the 14th back at the RA Centre.

Also: pricing really depends on the pen, but
the 'Classic' small pens range from $30 to $50, and up to $75 for the laser etched ones.
The fountain pens range from $50 to $75, depending on mechanism and whether the
fountain pen comes with the ink pump.
Boxes are still between $5 and $15, depending on style.

So a friend of mine pointed out I should probably let folks know whether I'm doing the craft sale season this year: Yep...

So far: November 7th, 14th and 21st (Sunday's) at the RA Centre on Riverside Drive.
November 27th and 28th at the Stittsville Craft sale in the Rec Centre in Old Stittsville
November 13th, and December 11th at the Jim Durrell Arena's craft sales.

Drop by and check out some of my new creations. Lots of lower cost pens, plus
some beautiful new fountain pens.
I also expect to be set up for credit cards (finally) at the sales this year.

A couple of folks asked about the table made from pink ivory.
I had my friend take a couple of pictures of it:
not the best composed picture in the universe
(I think the patio chair and the air conditioning plumbing really
adds a certain "something"...)

Oh Oh.... Two posts in one week...

I received a delightful email from someone looking for a graduation gift for her special someone, and this made me realize how much further behind on photos I really am.

So: more to come, but just as a thought...

I helped a friend make a hall table from a wood called pink ivory: its from Southern Africa, it is so hard that it was often used to make arrowheads. Its also utterly gorgeous.

I saved some of the leftover pieces of wood from making the table, and then my friend asked me to make a couple of pens out of the leftover pieces.

The following photos show just how utterly stunning the wood is: the texture, the colour.

The other interesting thing is that it gave me an excuse to try out a couple of new mechanisms: This mechanism has a simple crystal in the cap, as well as some pleasant filigree.

My friend's wife did not want something quite as ornate, but still wanted to show off her pink ivory. I tried another interesting mechanism: its essentially a simple twist pen, but the cap and clip really set it off. The interesting thing is that the pink ivory still looks even more impressive than my usual favourite: the maple burl.
My friends liked the two pink ivory pens so much that they bought the maple burl one for a gift for a business associate.

This pen is a rollerball made from cocobolo, I had some fun turning this one.
Couldn't resist adding some beads.
Cocobolo is a great wood for turning.

A pen made from Panga Panga. I got a -great- deal on some
blanks from this wood, and I had some fun.

Its a really beautiful wood
after being polished up.

For someone wanting some North American content, a fountain pen made from Maple Burl.
This pen's picture doesn't do it justice, its just gorgeous!

This is a bubinga fountain pen.
Bubinga comes from Africa and
is an amazing wood, sworls and whorls in the grain pattern.
Absolutely delightful

Hi all.

Been a few months since the last update on pens. Attached are some shots of some really beautiful pens I've made up. They're available for sale by contacting me in the usual email way, also available soon on e-bay, and on my sales site which is under construction.

I'm also set up for branding of gift boxes and for sales of promotional gifts, if you're
interested in such a thing.

I've spent more time turning than I have doing websites, which is unfortunate, because
there are now a lot of pens to get published!

By the way:
From top to bottom
A Pau Rosa rollerball pen, followed by a Leopardwood rollerball. Both are really stunning woods that look and feel great in the hand.

The two gorgeous fountain pens are in curly maple and in bubinga, the wood grain and texture is just amazing. The Curly maple pen had some bark inclusions as it turned, so the pen actually has some texture to it which really brings home the natural features of the wood pen.

At the bottom is another leopardwood rollerball pen, this time in a glossy chrome style kit with black
highlights.

All of them make stunning pens and wonderful gifts.

Wow.

Can't believe that its been 6 months since I updated the page.
Not good form, but I've been so busy with work, and the workshop
that the website lacked attention.

Apologies. The good news is that folks have really started to like
the pens. Some gorgeous new fountain pen mechanisms came in
and I turned them up. Of course, the photos are still
in the camera. (Oops) If you're looking for the fountain pen info,
please email me.

Some new mechanisms from a supplier in Montreal came in, and
I'm getting ready to spin those up.
Also thinking of doing the craft sale circuit this fall. If you like
what you see here, let me know.
